Professional Career
2021 Real Salt Lake: Voted the RSL Defensive Player of the Year by his teammates for the second consecutive season, Herrera played in 29 matches - all starts - and scored his first goal in MLS on July 17 against LAFC. Herrera led MLS in assists by defenders with 11, the most by an RSL defender in its history. In total, Herrera played 2,514 minutes at the right and wing-back positions.
2020 Real Salt Lake: Starting all 20 of his appearances in a shortened 2020 MLS season, Herrera capped off another solid year with 42 tackles and a tackle percentage of 85.7%. He also recorded one assist in 1,796 minutes played.
2019 Real Salt Lake: In his second season with the club, Herrera made the switch from left back to right back. He saw the starting eleven in 33 of his 34 match appearances, more than doubling his total games played in 2018. Herrera recorded a career-high four assists in a team-leading 2,948 minutes and led the team with 63 tackles. Herrera was voted the RSL Defensive Player of the Year for his performances during the 2019 season.2018 Real Salt Lake: In his rookie season, Herrera cemented himself as the first choice left back on RSL’s back line where he played in 16 matches while making 14 starts. Herrera played a total of 1,236 minutes in his first year as a professional.2016-17 FC Tucson: Herrera made 11 appearances with USL2 club FC Tucson.
2012-2015 RSL Academy: Herrera was a standout with the RSL Academy for three years, twice reaching the USSDA National Championship.
International Career (USA)
2019: Herrera started for the U.S. U-23 squad in a 1-0 loss against Brazil U-23 on November 14, 2019.
2017: Herrera made 10 appearances across both the 2017 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, including five starts to help the group win the final and the 2017 U-20 World Cup in South Korea during the squads run to the quarterfinal.
2015-2016: Herrera appeared in six international friendlies for the U.S. U-20 squad and recorded 2 assists.
