Charlotte FC announced the signing of American defender Andrew Privett on Feb. 24, 2023. The No. 69 pick of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft inked a contract extension with the Club through 2028, with a Club option for 2029, on May 23, 2024.
In 2024, Privett continued to make strides and established himself as a mainstay of CLTFC’s backline after making 35 appearances across all competitions, all of which being starts. He helped keep 13 regular season clean sheets, good for second-best in MLS.
Privett spent time with the First Team and the Club’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, Crown Legacy FC, through the 2023 season. The Fallston, Maryland native made his debut with Crown Legacy FC on March 26 against Huntsville City FC and made eight appearances in MLS NEXT Pro. He then made his First Team debut on April 25 as a substitute in the Club’s U.S. Open Cup match against South Georgia Tormenta FC. As the season progressed, Privett transitioned from the midfield to centerback with the First Team, where he finished out the year making 11 MLS Regular Season appearances, 10 of which being starts.
Prior to joining the club, Privett had a four-year career at Penn State where he made 68 appearances, 44 starts as a midfielder. He was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team as a junior in 2021 after a breakout offensive season where he notched nine goals and four assists.
2024 (Charlotte FC): MLS Regular Season – Started in all 30 of his regular season appearances, totaling 2,682 minutes. Anchored the backline that kept second-highest number of clean sheets in 2024 (13). Totaled 73 clearances, good for 12th best in MLS. Leagues Cup – Appeared and started in both of the Club’s 2024 Leagues Cup matches, totaling 180 minutes and keeping a clean sheet against Cruz Azul on July 31. MLS Cup Playoffs – Started all three matches in Charlotte FC’s Round One matchup against Orlando City SC, tallying 270 minutes and keeping a clean sheet in Game 2.
2023 (Charlotte FC): MLS Regular Season – Appeared in 12 matches, making 11 starts, totaling 1,043 minutes. Made his MLS debut as a substitute on July 15 at CF Montréal. U.S. Open Cup – Made his First Team debut in his one appearance against South Georgia Tormenta FC on April 25, checking in for 26 minutes. Leagues Cup – Appeared in all five of Charlotte’s Leagues Cup matches, starting in all five and recording 440 minutes. MLS Cup Playoffs – Started and played all 90 minutes in the Club’s Wild Card match at New York Red Bulls. (Crown Legacy FC): MLS NEXT Pro Regular Season – Made eight appearances, starting in each match, totaling 637 minutes. Made his club debut on March 26 against Huntsville City FC. Third on the team in successful pass completion (min. 100 attempts) with 89.3%.
