CAREER

2021: Johnson was named Club Captain at the start of the year, and reinforced his stellar reputation between the sticks in 2021. He helped the Club reach the playoffs once again, where he came up big with penalty saves in two separate playoff games. That included two formidable stops in MLS Cup against Portland Timbers to help the team run out 4-2 winners on penalty kicks.

2020: The U.S. international played 23 times in MLS in 2020 and kept seven clean sheets as he reaffirmed his reputation as once again proved a vital part of the team.

2019: The goalkeeper played and started in 29 matches, only missing NYCFC games when away on international duty. Johnson recorded seven shutouts this season and had 78 saves throughout the season, continuing to cement his reputation as one of Major League Soccer's best goalkeepers.

2018: Sean Johnson registered 10 shutouts and tipped the 100 save mark as he lead NYCFC back to the MLS Cup Playoffs in his second year as the starting goalkeeper. His performances across 32 appearances earned him a call up to Gregg Berhalter’s first January Camp as USMNT manager.

2017: Johnson arrived at NYCFC during the offseason and secured the starting job by the time of the season opener. In 32 starts for City, Johnson notched 7 clean sheets and 96 saves en route to the Club’s best-ever finish. He also earned a call-up to the United States Men’s National Team for the 2017 Gold Cup, his first involvement with the team since 2013.

2016: Had five shutouts and 68 saves in 22 games for Chicago Fire. Acquired by NYCFC from Atlanta United on Dec 11 in the halfday trade window in exchange for GAM and TAM.

2015: Johnson had 59 saves in 21 games during a season that was marred by injuries at Chicago. Despite the small clip of games, Johnson was able to notch shutouts on March 29 vs. PHI, April 24 vs. NYC, July 11 vs. SEA and Aug. 2 vs. DAL. Johnson also featured in three of the Fire’s four U.S. Open Cup matches.

2014: One of only three players to appear in a team-high 33 matches. Named Chicago Fire MVP and Defensive Player of the Year

2013: Started all 28 matches in which he appeared for Chicago. Missed six matches while on international duty. Earned six shutouts.

2012: Played in a career-high 31 matches, earning five shutouts and a 1.24 goals against average across 2,766 minutes. Missed the first three matches of the season while with the U.S. U-23 Men’s National Team for Olympic Qualifying. MLS Cup Playoffs: Started and played the full 90 minutes of a 2-1 loss to HOU in the Eastern Conference Knockout match 10/31.

2011: Played 28 matches for The Fire, earning seven shutouts and a 1.32 goals against average across 2,520 minutes in his second season in Chicago.

2010: Selected in the fourth round (No. 51 overall) of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft as a Generation adidas player. Played 13 matches, earning three shutouts and a 1.31 GAA across 1,170 minutes in his rookie season. Earned 5 NAPA Save of the Week nominations, winning three of the weekly awards during the course of the season.

INTERNATIONAL (USMNT)

2019: Called to Greg Berhalter's first USMNT squad where he made a substitute appearance vs. Panama.

2016: Selected to Jurgen Klinsmann’s January Camp roster.

2015: Part of the United States’ roster for their friendly against Brazil on Sept. 8.

2014: Selected to Jurgen Klinsmann’s January Camp roster. Johnson traveled to Brazil as part of the training camp as part of the federation’s preparation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

2013: Selected by U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann to participate in the annual January training camp. Was a member of the U.S. squad that captured the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup crown.

2012: Named to the travel roster for the international friendly in Mexico 8/15, the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying match 9/7 in Jamaica and the international friendly in Russia 11/14. Was a member of the U.S. U23 Olympic Qualifying roster…Entered the match in the 39th minute of CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying in a 3-3 draw with El Salvador 3/26. Had another run with Klinsmann’s January camp in 2015 and earned a cap with a second-half appearance in a 2-0 win against Panama on Feb. 8. Johnson also received a call-up ahead of the American’s Sept. 8 match against Brazil at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. Johnson was on the bench for the game, but did not make an appearance.

COLLEGE (CENTRAL FLORIDA)

Started both years he attended Central Florida, racking up seven shutouts and 191 saves in 37 career games. Johnson also made appearances for the United States U-20’s during his time with Central Florida.

YOUTH (ATLANTA FIRE)

Reached the semifinals of the 2006 Score at the Shore Tournament and at the 2006 Tampa Bay Sun Bowl. Also a three-year letter winner in soccer and basketball at Brookwood High School in Snellville, Ga
